Starkin & Nightkin

Elf hybrid with another race, take after both.

Starkin & Nightkin

The Starkin are so named for their luminescent quality. Their skin emanates
starlight, making them look like they are surrounded by light. Their skin is
either midnight black skin as though the void behind the stars in the case
of Nightkin and some Starkin, fiery orange yellow skin as though from the
heart of a sun which stars are, or brilliant white skin though this might be
a birth defect or the cause of too much starlight buildup. The eyes are
large, luminous pools of mercury light, with pinpricks of bright white in
the center, or bright white with mercury gleams. They shine brightly. Their
hair can range from a multitude of colors and styles. The color and style of
the hair usually reflects on the class of star kin. The only colors not seen
have been black, blue and green. Nightkin tend to darker, richer colors of
hair.

The starkin children grow wings slowly over the ages of babyhood to
fourteen. At fourteen, they are able to fly. These wings are then also able
to be slipped away again into a tattoo upon the starkin’s back. The wings
are gauzy and gossamer like. They are diaphanous and can be any color, with
a starburst in the center which seems to be trying to escape from the wings.
Nightkin tend to have darker wings, but are similarly diaphanous, usually
with swirling deep colors like those of a cosmic nebulae.

The starkin are an honorable lot, seeing it as their duty to protect their
young ones. Thus, there is rarely a star kin who won’t see a young one of
another race whom he or she will not wish to be kind to and look out for.
Starkin are proud folk, but do not see it as lowering themselves when they
talk to someone from a different race. They are usually quite kind and
caring. Nightkin are similar, but tend to be a little more pragmatic.

Starkin and Nightkin came from Rethia as that world was being destroyed,
only to be saved by Stainiku. With the land, came the Starkin and Nightkin,
born from the astral cosmos. With Rethia gone again, they are few and far
between, some settling into small villages as refugees, especially in the
Kri'Xina Empire where they have been welcomed.

They like to choose names after celestial bodies or the meanings of the
different stars and constellations.

Starkin prefer to live in a forested or verdant habitat, in houses built by
their own hands. Some are cabin like structures, while others are tree
houses. Nightkin generally prefer more urban living of cities.

In Rethia, the Starkin lived in one clan made up with several families.
They go to the chief when there is trouble. Sometimes the chief holds a war
council when invaders roam the forested veil the starkin prefer to live in.
Now that Rethia is gone and their numbers are scattered, they are doing
their best to blend into the Societies they find themselves in.
