The Gathering... | Bard

Bard

The Bard subclass is for the storytellers of the world, poets and singers and players of music. More than this, though, bards have learned over the years how to make magic happen through their spellsongs, and bards have access to a full repertoire of them with each having its own unique effects on those within earshot. Ranging from damage songs to silly ones, bards are a unique and entertaining bunch to bring along on any adventure. As an added bonus to their spellsongs, bards can obtain various instruments from around the realm, and these instruments can enhance their spellsongs, making them more powerful and moving, though these instruments will occasionally require retuning in order for them to keep producing the beautiful and enhancing music.

  • Syntax: tune
  • Syntax: sing

Instruments act like components for spell. Holding one while you sing will improve he power of the song being sung. Instruments come in various power levels much the same as components. Tuning the instrument will replenish its power.

Special Note(s)

  1. While it's not explicitly required, those choosing to Roleplay this particular subclass are asked to delve deep into their creativity and actually sing a small portion of an original song, or be somehow musical in their usage of the following abilities and songs.
  2. Unless otherwise specified in the Remarks section, each of the abilities below will be treated as a Ranged AoE. Meaning, you may choose any point you can see within 120ft, and have the effect of your song blossom out into a 30ft sphere from that location. Each creature and/or player within that 30ft sphere would then make a some kind of saving throw with the Difficulty Class (DC) set at whatever the casters modified Charisma stat is for the particular spell.
  3. Creatures which cannot hear you are unaffected by your spell(s) and abilities.
  4. You may consider tuning your instrument, voice, or whatever your medium of sound. Doing so will cost your action; however, on the following turn you can increase the DC required to resist your song to: 12 + Modifier.
  5. Using bard songs is a means of magic, meaning that they require concentration when being sung/cast. See help rp-spellcasting for how concentration works. In addition, while a player is raging/berserking or the equivilant, only a song that is considered a bard damage song is able to be used, though a concentration check will still need to be performed. Bard songs that are considered a buff, healing or crowd control song will not allow enough concentrnation. That said, a song can still be sung, but it will have no magical effect as they would be unable to concentrate on the spell component behind it.
