General Physical Description & Biology

Kitven are petite rodent like beings. Some are fully furred, while others do have more human skin with just ears and a tail. This difference may be due to the purity of their lineage, but it is unknown really what causes the variety in their appearance. The more humanoid Kitven tend to be more accepted in society. The ones that are fully furred take on more rodent like features with longer snouts, whiskers and rodent ears. They all have rounded beady eyes of a mostly solid color. The rat-type kitven have long prehensile tails that are a furless grey or pink. Opposed to this, Squirrel type kitven have fluffy furred tails that are not as prehensile. In general, most kitven are lithe and slender, with quick reflexes. However, they do not tend to be overly muscular or strong. Some have small claws. Their rodent teeth grow for most of their lives, thus they have to gnaw on wood and other hard things to keep them at a reasonable length.

Basic Personality

Varies depending on their sub-race. Rat Kitven tend to be greedy scavengers- drawn to gold and items that they can use to build other things. Smart and quick witted inventors who problem solve and act as a group. They are harsh and look down on other races for being lazy. Mouse type Kitven tend to be a more accepted kitven in polite society, more demure and soft in personality. Squirrel Kitven tend to be frenetic and high energy and any seem to have ADD as they dart from one idea to the next quickly. All kitven come off as cowardly, but they are simply strategists and will weigh the possibility of winning. Few will take on a challenge they cannot be victorious in- those who live to fight another day can take over the world.

Origin and Lore

It is unknown where Kitven come from. But, there is rumor they were once wizard familiars that got twisted by some magic. However, many of them seem to be very keen inventors and problem solvers, making up for their physical weakness with brains, even if they don't express it the same way as other humanoids. Each type of Kitven have formed their own societies, yet, there is rumors they all work together when they need to. The more polite Mouse Kitven being the 'front' facing type, Rat Kitven being the more war-like and idea makers and the Squirrel being the more nature driven kind.

Naming Convention

Depends on Subrace and community they live in.

Preferred Habitat

Rat Kitven prefer underground communities and can often be found in sewers or confined alleys- the undercity where they can scavenge or 'borrow' needed materials. Mice Kitven prefer society and cities. Squirrel Kitven like forests and trees.

Society Structure

They have large communities. Each of the Sub-races are different in how they build their society though. They are natural tinkers, but because their items come from scavenged goods, few outside of their race realize this, thinking instead they just steal what they need. This is not far from the truth, but they steal and improve things. Their societies have equality between the genders, but the clever and strong rise the ranks quicker. Due to their shorter lifespans, they have a strong mating instinct and they want to produce a lot of offspring. They don't tend to mate for life, but it is not unheard of for strong couples to do so.
