General Physical Description & Biology

Fortress Kobolds stand out as the most graceful and organized among kobold races. They range in height from 3 to 4 feet and are often described as appearing more elven than reptilian, with slender, pointed features, though they still retain their lizard-like scales. Their colors range from dull red, pale green, and brown to rare shades of creamy white. Fortress Kobolds are unique in that some individuals sport patches of fur, usually on the tips of their tails and ears. Their bodies are built for agility and speed, relying on their combat prowess and organization to overpower much larger foes. While they share the sharp claws and fangs of other kobolds, Fortress Kobolds are physically more refined, with smoother, more elegant movements. They are slightly taller and have better posture, often compared to small elves due to their more humanoid proportions. Unlike their Dragonkin cousins, Fortress Kobolds also have larger breasts, a trait inherited through their careful breeding history. Fortress Kobolds eat a well-rounded diet, preferring cooked meals over raw or scavenged food. Their cooking often features a mix of game, fruits, and grains, and they are known for their ability to preserve food for long periods, a trait essential for maintaining their fortress strongholds. They are particularly fond of cured meats and soups, which sustain them through long sieges or guard duties.

Basic Personality

Fortress Kobolds are fiercely loyal and disciplined. They are bred to be warriors and defenders, valuing the safety and secrecy of their home fortress above all else. Fearless in battle, they are known to take on giants, ogres, and other massive creatures, defeating them through careful strategy and relentless teamwork. As a result, they tend to be more stoic and reserved than other kobold races, rarely engaging in the petty squabbles that plague their Dragonkin and Wolfkin cousins.

Origin and Lore

The Fortress Kobolds trace their origins to the intervention of Kaida, their patron deity, who is said to have bred them from Dragonkin Kobolds, transforming them into elite warriors tasked with guarding her sacred fortresses. Fortress Kobolds were chosen for their strength, discipline, and tactical prowess, quickly becoming the favored defenders of their realms. They are named after the fortress they were bred to defend, and the entire race views themselves as guardians. The fortress itself is shrouded in mystery, with few outsiders ever gaining access to its inner workings. Fortress Kobolds rarely stray far from their home, and those who do often set up remote outposts or small communities that follow the same strict codes of conduct and honor. Many of the greatest legends among Fortress Kobolds involve battles where they held the line against impossible odds, often winning through sheer determination and strategic brilliance. They are highly respected among kobold-kind for their strength and discipline.

Naming Convention

Fortress Kobold names are long and often filled with vowels, reflecting their more refined speech compared to other kobolds. Examples include: Vaeloshar, Kaathorin, Eleiraak, Niraeska

Society Structure

These kobolds are also known for their exceptional teamwork and military training. Fortress Kobolds see themselves as protectors and are known for their rigid adherence to military hierarchies and codes of honor.
