Treasure Chests

Keywords: CHEST, STRONGBOX, COFFER, TREASURE
The treasure chest code here at The Gathering... allows for the finding of unique items, gems, and various things one might find neat or useful. Treasure chests come in many forms, and are dropped after fights by usually bipedal, humanoid mobs. The process for opening these chests is fairly simple, but requires some skill.

It is safe to assume that all treasure chests are trapped. This means that if you attempt to open them without disarming the trap, you could take damage, or possibly be poisoned. In order to detect the traps, you need to search the chest for them. For instance, if I found a strongbox, I would type 'search strongbox' and it might tell me the type of mechanism of the trap I've found. Once found, or in some cases before you find it, you can unarm it with 'unarm strongbox', and if successful the trap will be rendered useless. Be cautious because sometimes attempting to disarm a trap can fail and set it off instead. Once unarmed, you will need a lockpick. They can be found in various shops around the world. With your lockpick in hand, you simply type 'pick strongbox' until it unlocks, then you can open and retrieve your prizes. The contents of treasure chests are entirely randomly generated, so no two chests will contain the same items.

The items you find in treasure chests can be used, auctioned away, sold to shops, or roleplayed with in whatever way you choose. The gems you find can only be sold at pawn shops like the one in Dragondale.
