The history of the dwarf is semi-shrouded in mystery. To hear a dwarf tell the tale, they were created by a god of the forge. There may be some truth to this story. Short and compact in design, they are stroger and stouter than they appear they should be. Much like a blade that has been folded many times.
It is believed that there are only two versions of the dwarves. The mountain clans and the hill clans. The mountain clans mine their mountains, drink their fill and generally leave the outside world to itself. The hill clans do much the same as the mountain clan, but are willing to deal with the world around them.
There has been talk of dark dwarves. Dwarves who dug to deep into the mountain and were changed. Becoming twisted creatures that only those closest to them could identify. Perhaps they met up with drows. This is another story that has been lost in time.
What is believed to be true is that each continent has its own clan of dwarves within and under a mountain range. It is also believed that these clans took the name of the weapon they were most likely to craft, those being the finest in all the world.
