The City of Enghelia in Coral Gardens

Keywords: ENGHELIA, CORAL-GARDENS
The City of Enghelia is a warm, tropical, Merfolk city built into a vast coral reef off the southwestern coast of Nersa. Some stories say that a sea turtle led the merfolk to the place where the city now stands, as a sign from Nereus. It is closer to the surface than most other Merfolk cities and because of that the citizens seem to have more interest and connections to the local surface residents. They are also more welcome and open to having visitors than many others. The Merfolk there hold Lord Nereus above any other, some referring to their determined beliefs as the Order of Nereus, solely devoted to the God of the Seas. The people rely on projections into the minds of others for communication and often can be heard singing through a blending of the notes in one's mind as well as the uniquely vibrating sounds through the water. There is no defined ruler of the city as instead the people honor the current High Priest or Priestess of the local temple to speak for them in a time of need or decide factors into the progress of the city. Spreading out across the ocean floor, the structures tend to be low to the ground. There is little need for other decorations with the brilliant colors from the coral blossoms and sea life that are active and thriving. Farmlands surround the city, growing and tending to a number of commonly eaten fish and vegetation that are used in the city and traded locally. Clothing is lightweight and brightly colored, often decorated in shells. Objects from local shipwrecks often make their way into the city for observations and trade. There is a whole archive dedicated to the study of surface life with a rare library of books saved from the water. Children are also an important aspect to the life in the city. With such large families, playgrounds and shops are dedicated to entertaining the little ones.
