Magi have researched utility magic in order to conquer the seas and traverse them on foot. However, their constant resistance and shifting waters have made it difficult to levitate in the deeper regions of the sea. Luckily, and very much by accident, someone developed a spell for just such an occassion. The float spell makes the body so bouyant that travelers can move through the water no matter how deep it may be. It also prevents the affected from being brought under water.
