The Goddess Furina

Keywords: FURINA, CULT OF FURINA
Deity of: Pestilence Form: The Malchoir form is a green-skinned demonic creature with no face besides pointed elven ears and a black mane of hair, streaked with lines of silver upon it. Its torso is powerful and muscular with four arms; each arm holds an item. In the upper left, a morning star (The Star of Madness). The lower left wields a black-steel khopesh (The Final Death). In the upper right is a dagger dripping with poisons and plagues, and the lower right holds a decaying golden chalice (the chalice of corruption and madness). Furina's main form is a decaying, plague-stricken, corpse-like (sometimes skeletal) form of being infested with vile things revolving around or on the body; wielding a massive hook-like scythe called "the Soul Hook." Furina's Colors: Black, brown and dark or putrid green Deity's Weapons: Scythe, morning star, khopesh, daggers, poisons, and plagues Symbols: The soul-hook and/or a decaying golden chalice Religion and Following: Furina, in ancient days, was given the distasteful task of collecting the souls of the followers of the Pantheon when their time was up and delivering them to the Underworld. Furina, was at first reluctant to take up this task. However, as ages passed, Furina took to the task with more enthusiasm, but conversely grew colder and more logical and even a bit sadistic, losing the Mercy and Passion she was formerly known for. It is Furina that determines the length and form of all natural deaths. People once prayed to Furina for painless death and to be spared from disease, while others still prayed for the slow death of their enemies. Either way, the prayers received are answered, though not all as expected with her new turn of view. Mercy is answered by a sadistic response, where at times even the whole family has received a plague or pox, while payment for an enemy could cost the price of a lover to poison. Everything is done for answers, but what the questions are, and any answers that were given are known only to Furina and her devout faithful. The followers of Furina tend to be an unsavory bunch if their true colors are seen. From the cold-hearted warrior or mercenary, to the assassin that brings death and suffering in the night, and to the sadistic mage or cleric who bends magic to suit their own ways, the secret and hidden members of her faith among good and general society foster corruption behind the scenes, waiting for Furina's time to come upon their lands. All her sects work together for a mutual gain and benefit of the temple. There are rumors of a death council, with each head of a sect and other high ranking members of the cults, that exists to exchange thoughts on how best to serve death and further the temples knowledge of plagues and poisons. They also serve to further the research of physical and mental experiments on sentient beings. Religion and State: Most lands oppress this religion, especially those that want to make some sort of a gesture to their people that death and forms of corruption only happen to degenerates and their ilk few. The open temples of Furina that were controlled by former mercy and passion sects have since been converted to asylums with small graveyards around them. The Furina faith has shown a williness to work with locals to take in inmates of local governments and cities and hold them, creating less of a burden on some of the kinder governments and guards in some cities. The few darker temples that were open still remain, even though some have turned into assassin temple guilds or schools, and often sometimes work with the governments that allow them to exist. ------------------------------------ Common Tenets 1)Death with purpose. 2)Pain in all forms is knowledge; study it and learn from it, and the inflictions of...before they end. 3) Death is never the end, but at the time we receive our true forms if we are found worthy.
