What is a Primordial?
A Primordial is an ancient thing, a concept that somehow had a Thought and came into Existence. They are beyond time, beyond divinity, and beyond nature. The Primordials are the essence of the concept itself. They are of the world and beyond the world of Tirradyn. They are Constant. They are the things that life needs to thrive, the spark, the idea of the thing. They are a simulacra of the concept- something that is a physical manifestation of a concept. The Simulacra can be real or a distorted symbol of the thing. The Primordials embody the essence of their concept.
The Primordials who exist (they do not live, they exist), came into their existence with the first inkling of a thought, an emotion or, sometimes, a need. This thought gave them individuality and let them coalesce into existence. They are generally rare and distant from the people of Tirradyn- however they are things that most people just know instinctually TO BE.
Not all Concepts become Primordials. Why do some things rise to this level and others do not? It is hard to say, perhaps it is the age and staying power, perhaps belief and instinct. But some concepts have come to Exist and other simply, haven't.
Why does a Primordial Bond and How?
Some Primordials choose to bond with an individual person. however, they cannot be forced into this. They cannot be restrained or cajoled. They must choose the bonding and the person must simply accept.
Usually the person must of hearty mind and soul. Sometimes they must be of healthy body, but age and wisdom can compensate for this. The person must have understanding, empathy and the ability to become a part of the Primordial that bonds with them. Their ego is secondary and sometimes, even shifted and changed because of their bond. They become greater than the sum of their parts. It has been known that those who have bonded to Primordials have changed in personality, becoming a blend of who they were and the Primordial itself, the Primordial choosing their bond to those who can accept them.
Acceptance and empathy are key to this process. The soul of the bond and the will of the Primordial to do so. Forcing the bond would destroy the person, the Primordial would never bend their will to a person who would restrain them- even a God.
Powers of a Primordial and their Bond
Each Primordial is unique in their Existence and Thought. But generally, they align power with their Aspect. To use the power, it takes concentration, will and power and can leave the person drained. If the Primordial does not wish it, they may not give the ability. The stronger the bond, the more closely the pair are tied and the more likely a person and Primordial resonate with their power.
Some have been known to be able to control- to varying degrees- their aspect. Or even change into a symbolic form of their aspect.
