The greatest dislike among the immortals is the harassment of players by
anyone in any shape or form. Complaints of harassment always garner the
fastest response from the staff, and for continued harassment, the fastest
path to getting yourself banned. We do not, however, spy or snoop on our
players, so if there is harassment, we depend on our players to properly report it and to provide logs of the harassment to that it can properly be
dealt with. We cannot act on things without them being reported, nor can we
act on them without proof. If we did, I'm sure we would be getting reports
of harassment just because one player doesn't like another and wants to see them in trouble.
There are many forms of harassment, but they all basically boil down to forcing some type of unwanted attention or communication on to someone else. Just so that there isn't any confusion though, we'll go through the most common types of harassment here.
By far, the most common form of harassment on The Gathering occurs when Player 1 complains to Player 2 that Player 2 isn't logging in the alt that Player 1 wants to rp with. This extends to cases where Player 2 doesn't even create an alt for Player 1 to rp with despite Player 1's wishes. This often escalates into passive aggressive attacks on who Player 2 is actually playing with, and into guilt trips and other nonsense to try to coerce Player 2 into logging/creating alts for Player 1. This is childish behavior. Stop whining because someone else feels like playing on another alt with another player, especially when you quite probably do the same thing yourself. We don't always feel in the mood to play some of our alts, sometimes we have to be in the proper mood to properly play their personalities. If someone isn't in the mood to play the alt you want them to, accept that. Send them a tell saying you would like to rp with the alt, and then let it go. If they log that alt, awesome, if they don't, or give a reason why they don't feel like it, accept that and let it go.
Another common form of harassment is the selfish/possessive ploy. This is when Player 1 begins to rp with Player 2, and either quickly, or slowly over time Player 1 insists that Player 2 doesn't rp with anyone else but them on any of their alts. If Player 2 does rp with others, Player 1 gets angry, throws a fit, tries guilt trips, insults the people Player 2 is rping with. Anything to get them to stop. This is the least reported type of harassment, because the player that is trapped into this cycle has often given the control to the dominating player in the first place, so they feel somewhat responsible for the mess they've gotten themselves in to. This type of harassment amounts to little more than slavery. You don't own anyone else here. Everyone is free to play with whomever they like, whenever they like.
Harassment over disagreements is also common. This happens when something occurs between two or more players, and a disagreement arises, or someone feels hurt or disgruntled over the results of the occurence. The proper way to handle this is to explain your side peacefully and politely, and offer any apologies if they are necessary (they're always necessary), then let it drop. Don't insult the other person because they believe life should work differently than you do. Don't tell them they're being whiny, don't tell them that they're being too sensitive. And if for any reason someone asks you to stop communicating with them, you stop immediately. Don't keep talking just so that you can have the last word, don't blame them for your continued harassment because they sent you one last otell. Just stop.
