Alaghi males fill a role as hunters which also furnishes them to
defend their households and the broader tribe. A few are chosen for
particular roles, guarding routes into the jungle from possible
intruders or partly cerimonial temple guards. But these are a small
proportion, and the duties are shared out over time rather than
held by particular individuals. Some women also act as hunters,
tending to favour methods that suit their physique rather than
outright force.
The hunter/warriors follow the creatures which represent their
caste and the challenge that they undertook. Some use speed and
surprise, imitating the eagle, others the strength and toughness of
an alligator or ferocious grace of a jaguar. There are other, groups,
more rarely seen, with their own techniques, but each equips arms
themselves with treated animal skins, using weapons of obsidian and
wood. The social structure of the tribe favours defence, as does
their culture, so their resources are most concentrated around the
city.
