Orcish society may appear simple to outsiders but involves layers of more complex ideologies as one delves further into interactions with them. They appear to value strength above everything else to outsiders but internally what they value most is more varied. Self-sufficiency, the ability to provide for one's tribe, and a natural innate drive to improve are the hallmarks of Orcish society. That their physical forms lend towards brutish natures tends to lend no small sum of influence to this.
Orcs are tribal by nature, each tribe being ruled by a chieftain, usually the most capable among their tribe. In recent years the tribes have begun gravitating towards stronger relations between one another under a singular grand chieftain chosen from among the most respected and capable of the tribal leaders. Many consider this a great honor to the grand chieftain's tribe to have theirs so recognized. Though the chieftains and grand chieftain can be challenged for their position, this is rarely done without great reason due to the very nature of having achieved it commanding such respect.
Spiritual leaders hold a special place within the tribes, both seeing a position within and at the same time separate from their kin. Many of these leaders, typically referred to as Shaman, tend to form circles with other such members of cousin tribes to see to spiritual concerns. Orcs are a very spiritual people, revering their ancestors with respect fostered by the great feats they've accomplished. Many further believe those feats live on in their blood as something to call forth and guide them at their ancestor's behest.
Orcish society sees no difference between male and female leadership. In fact, they hardly seem to recognize gender when it comes to such positions of power. The reasons behind this are rooted out of capability. Male members of the tribes tend to gravitate to leadership positions due to the nature of physical might but many tale has been told of female shield maidens capable of leading many through sheer charisma and skill. Courage, sacrifice, an iron will, and the glory brought to one's name are far more motivating to one's tribe than such notions.
Romantic relations between Orcs are many and varied based upon the needs of their household. Typically these relationships tend to lend towards dominant and submissive roles as many an Orc's nature tend to a desire to show superiority among their kind. This isn't to be mistaken for disrespect or a feeling of 'lesser' status to the one falling within the secondary role of their household. This couldn't be further from the truth, as a lack of respect between lovers may as well be no relationship at all as far as they're concerned. Though there is no particular taboo with such relationships with those beyond their race, non-orcs will often times find themselves vying for a tribe's acceptance moreso than their mate's if such a relationship would go any further than a casual affair.
