The pumpkin patch was planted by Kedanna by hand. She cared for it and allowed it to grow, but lost interest when she married Asellus. She set a dark spirit in charge of it and it turned all the pumpkins into jack-o-lanterns. The dragons moved in later, roosting in the cave near by to eat the mice and pumpkins.
