The ranged weapon system is designed to provide another method of fighting
that relies on direct input from the player. In normal combat, players and
mobs will take turns beating each other with their weapons or fists, with ranged weapons, the mobs will still bash you regularly as normal, but your
own fighting will be done with regular use of the 'shoot' command. You will
get no other strikes except those done by shooting your weapons at your
enemy or by using other non-weapon related skills such as 'kick'.
Using a ranged weapon requires that you be wielding a ranged weapon, that you are wearing a proper quiver, that you have the right type of ammunition in that quiver for your weapon type, and that you have the requisite skill learned for that weapon type. If all four of these conditions are true, you can use the 'shoot' command in one of two ways. You may use shoot <mob> to target a mob within the room specifically, and thereafter repeat your attacks by entering 'shoot' alone, or with the mob's name, or you may use shoot <direction> to shoot out of the room to hopefully hit a random mob in the next room.
