Role-Play Advice

Role-play on The Gathering... is pretty much enforced and mandatory. This is an RP MUD, and as such, players here are required to come up with some form of character concept. The character concept is who your character is, how they think, how they act, where are they from, what they look like and some include goals, while others just let rp lead them where it may. Stick to this concept, you will not be permitted to suddenly change the entire thing down the road, because by doing that, you change the RP that others have already done with you. By changing, meaning where your character is from, how they came to be, etc etc. Personalities change all the time during RP, as the character develops and grows. If you wish to change up your characters entire concept after it has already been RP, then the suggestion is to create an alt, with the concept you wish. That is of course, what alts are for.
The character you create, adds to the story in the realm. No part is too small, there are no bit players here, and everyone has a chance to be a hero, or the supreme villain if they so desire. A player is only limited to their own imaginings, and want to work for what they wish. RP imms and nobles are in place, to help you move your own story along if you wish it, via npc's or lines that you think might be entertaining for the masses. You can share your characters experiences, and write a story within a story so to speak, placing a chapter in the pages via an RP Note to highlight some important event, or situation, or simply because your creative juices are flowing and you feel a need to release them. RP notes, are never to be used to godmod your character. There is no way that you can know what another player would do in any situation, there is no way to know what they are thinking, what they have already planned out, what safety's they have have put into place, or what allies they have gained. Not to mention, it's just bad form all the way around. If you would not wish someone to write an RP note that has them sneaking into your house and killing you in your sleep, then demand that you delete because they wrote it, so it must be true, then have the same respect for others. This is for NPC's as well. Everything, absolutely everything, must be RP'd out for it to have happened and be supported by the staff. This is an RP MUD, so.. RP!
You can also take part in the many empires that are in place. You do not have to rule one, to be a part of one, but there has to be some sort of logical reason for why your character is there, or has ties to it. For example, elves are a snobbish lot, and consider themselves a supreme race, the elven empires especially. They do not like mixing with things that are out of the norm, so if you have a demonic, or half-demon character, chances are, that you would be snubbed in their empire as being anyone of noble station. Only those who are pure elven could ever hope to hold a title within their ranks. The same can be said of Balmorral, an empire of holy crusaders who are zealots to the extreme when it comes to anything that is unnatural, evil, or unholy. To say that a succubus is from there, well, that would be a pretty interesting trick to pull off.
You can try to get hired on as a spy, an assassin, a trader, a guard, a coin counter, an entertainer, pretty much anything within the empire that you can think of. For those who rule, it would behoove rulers greatly, to learn the lay of the land around their empire. What other populations exist, what are their beliefs, their cultures, who are their allies, are they a threat, could they become an alliance. You can make agreements for trade, to gain materials that you might need and do not have available to you through your own natural resources, to enable you to expand your empire and add to its growth. You can secretly plot against another, sending spies into their ranks, learn about their guard, their tactics and strategies. The limit for RP possibilities when it comes to empires, is, limitless. There is always something that can be done, even simple things like festivals or contests that the entire player-base can take part in.
The Gathering... is pretty tolerant of most character concepts, and allow others to be as imaginative as they can be without crossing the bounds that might make things unstable for other players. Mystical creatures, such as dragons, take gaining approval to be played, as they are a pretty hefty powerful thing to play, and in the wrong hands, could cause a great deal of ooc chaos. This is true for any large, mystical, or rare creature that exists in the realm. If it is not in the race selection during creation, then it can not be played, without -first- getting permission from RP before ever creating the character. We will never spy on your RP unless it is a global and we are having to be present to react to anything. We trust that you are all adults, and are capable of being mature regarding any situation that might occur. You will find no iron fist here, to limit your creativity other than the one that must be used to ensure that things remain fair to everyone, that everyone is on an equal playing field, and that 'our' concept of the mud and it's areas stay true. We respect yours, please respect ours.
This is a fantasy setting, and take place during medieval times where there were knights and mages, kings and liches, good vs evil. The mud is not the modern day world, refrigerators do not exit, neither do blue jeans and tennis shoes, no rifles or pistols, or tanks or trucks, so it's a good idea to keep to the theme, and if needed, research the time period to understand the mindset that is in place in the realm.
Your fingers on the keys are your quill to parchment, bringing the characters in the story to life and writing them onto the pages of Tirradyn. How they are written is up to you.
