RP Consequences for Actions

In essence the issue is when people perform actions that may end up pissing off someone and then not wanting to get into a fight, either PK or in an emote fight. Now while I respect a player's ultimate right to determine what happens to their character, it is bad form to basically talk shit and then refuse to back it up. Whether it be outright threats, rude comments or whatever else may occur.
You, and your character, both need common sense in dealing with some beings because naturally some are going to be more inclined to maim you then others should you piss them off and also one must bear in mind exactly who they are pissing off.
Sure, if someone is RPing a simple street sweeper, they aren't going to back some of what they say however they won't be talking shit either because simple common sense tells them that for their own survival it's not a wise move to insult the Drow mage glaring at everyone from his seat in the corner of a bar.
Now as mentioned above, keeping in mind whom one is insulting, you may wish to stop and consider the resources the person may have at their disposal before you threaten them. A high priest is an excellent example of this. They're a high priest and have a religion behind them which means they're going to have a lot of resources they could potentially pull in. Some might not, some might.
Now there are also things to be said for the one being instigated. For one if something major is going to be done to another character, you do of course require consent as ultimately the decision of what occurs to a character resides with that character's player. It's all dicated by common sense and common courtesy by and between players.
I've had this issue come up from time to time and decided it was time to post a note on it and just make my own stance clear on the issue. If you want to talk shit, be prepared to back it up. If you OOCly don't wish to back it up in some fashion, don't talk it in the first place. As I first stated, this is one of my largest pet peeves so I'd simply ask all of you, if you play characters that are rude, abrasive or have the potential to start fights, bear in mind that the character will be held accountable for their actions and it may not turn out well. It's up to you.
In addition to this, if you cast spells upon another player, unless there is a PRIOR agreement that said spell is done so OOCly, then this is considered an IC action. If that player takes offense upon your actions ICly, then it is an offense they are allowed to dispute. You are under no circumstances allowed to ignore an IC conflict that you have created with your own actions. If an issue is pushed and you wish to OOCly pull out of it, then discuss the matter OOCly. If an IMM is needed to aid in the matter, then we will gladly do so. But again, under no circumstances are you allowed to exclude your IC actions without facing the repercusions or consequences of your own actions.
