They are covered in tough, leathery scales that offer resistance to most physical attacks. Their scales come in a variety of dull colors, ranging from red to green, with rare hues of pink, depending on their lineage. The brightness of their eyes, which usually match the color of their scales, serves as one of the few markers of their strength. Dragonkin possess sharp claws and fangs, much like other kobold races, but their physical frailty leads them to rely more on wit than brute force. Dragonkin Kobolds lay eggs, but despite their reptilian traits, the females provide breast milk for their young once hatched. They reproduce quickly, ensuring their survival even in the face of constant threats from larger, stronger creatures. Dragonkin Kobolds prefer a varied diet, eating whatever they can scavenge. They are omnivores and have a taste for fruits, fungi, and small animals. Basic Personality: Dragonkin Kobolds are known for being cowardly and tend to avoid direct confrontation whenever possible. However, they are also the most cunning and intelligent of all kobolds, often excelling in strategy, traps, and magic. Their cowardice stems from their small size and weak physical abilities, but it's also what makes them survivors. Due to their intelligence, Dragonkin Kobolds are more likely than their counterparts to pursue magical professions. Many become sorcerers or shamans, using their magical prowess to compensate for their lack of physical strength. Dragonkin are known to retreat at the first sign of danger, but they can also plan complex ambushes or devise traps to outsmart their enemies. They are opportunistic eaters, often stealing food from other creatures' stores or setting traps for animals too large to catch with their bare hands. Due to their smaller size and limited physical capabilities, Dragonkin often forage for food rather than hunt, but they will band together to bring down larger prey when necessary. Origin and Lore: Dragonkin Kobolds claim to be descendants of mighty dragons, though many races view this as more of a cultural fantasy than an actual bloodline. Despite this belief, Dragonkin Kobolds are known for their reverence toward dragons, and some even serve as caretakers or minions for larger, more powerful dragon-like creatures. Naming Convention: Dragonkin Kobold names often include hard "S" and "K" sounds, reflecting their snappy, sharp manner of speech. Examples include: Skrix, Sakkar, Kessik, Krazzik Preferred Habitat: They primarily live in caves, forests, and lower-income villages, but they prefer to stay out of sight and out of trouble. Their small stature and timid nature keep them from forming large settlements, so they are often nomadic, moving from one temporary dwelling to the next. Society Structure: Due to their intelligence, Dragonkin Kobolds have been known to organize small tribes or cults, worshiping dragons or deities. They have a particular affinity for elemental magic, often specializing in spells that align with their dragon-heritage like fire, frost, or acid.
