Temperance and Relations with other Races:

Troll. Ogre. Hob. These are words used to describe a monstrous person, feral, destructive, violent, cruel! In truth? All of these things are the same creature, some say. Born of an ancient, insidious intent to do harm. To bring violence. To destroy. It's not out of hate, per say, nor rage. It just is. To say the heart of a troll is naturally laden with these cruel intentions would not be far from its mark...and so would one have to look at those who work closest with trolls, to see perhaps, the clearest truth:

Orcs:
Of all the races capable of working with Trolls, it is the Orcs who would strike them down fastest, and with greatest efficiency, for it is also the Orcs who have been witnesses to their horrors. It is only during great wars that Orc Shamans and Clerics will summon forth these ancient things from the dark places, and it is often with a great sacrifice they will send them back - calling sunlight, fire, and acid rains to purge whole landscapes until their bitter, unholy allies are dismissed.

Goblins:
It is the Goblins who have seen perhaps the simplest aspects of these Fae - for what is it to a Goblin pack to lure a hunting party of stupid Elves or hunters into the muck? What is it to them that the Trolls eat most of them? The Goblins get the loot. They get big hunks left behind. They get to, like the small birds that pluck at the rears of hippo, live in some semblance of violent serenity.

Sylvan Elves:
To the Sylvans, there is little more repulsive than a Troll, for speaking even a word in their courts is said to be grounds for immediate execution. Often by fire...just in case. Though it may seem like an unholy hate the Elves hold in their hearts it is, instead, intrinsic understanding of the Fae Things of the world. For they know. They have seen. They have born witness to the behemoths lurking...and been subject to the cruel kidnappings of their children.

Drow:
If any race in particular was to have grounds for working with a Troll, it is this one, and better still the Drow understand these Fae's base instincts, they tell themselves. They know the inner-workings of that evil mind. They thirst, so they drink. They hunger, so they feed. They want to kill, so they kill, and so on. But it is also the Drow who have discovered the cunning of Trolls. For each Troll is new, each different, and each holds some dark gift be it size, strength or worse of all: Cunning. It is for this reason many Drow are very keen on keeping their magi away from the Trolls as if...these ebony-people have found out trolls might wield magic of their own.

But what of the thoughts of Trolls and others? Beyond 'Delicious.'? None are sure, the Trolls aren't speaking on it - each is new. Each is different. There is however one glaring personality quirk they all share: A complete and utter lack of mercy. To bargain with a Troll is not impossible, simply foolish, for the moment you turn your back...or trip...or break a leg...grow sick, or old...they're there. Hungry.
Between Trolls there is seemingly no sense of racial loyalty whatsoever. They'll maim each other, brutally dismember a fellow until he is ribbons -- and wait for the new tribe to be born from the scattered pieces. Out with the old, in with the new.
