With the signs read around the realm there are those who believe that the Dark Times are approaching. The times told by those who follow Fate as the ending of Peace among the gods. Foretelling of a great battle that would see several immortal protectors of domains fall. In this great battle and time of suffering, the lands will know further decay. Those that should be dead will rise to walk once more, though without any mind or memory of who they were before. Only seeking to feed their hunger upon the living. Even Nature is not immune to Fate, for all have a beginning, and an end. The rarest gift of Fate is a rebirth, a chance to change things, to create ones own Fate anew. It is for this reason, that Umbalor was formed. The slightest of manipulation, the tiniest of meddling, can tip the spool askew, possibly leading to a Darker, more evil Fate than what must soon be endured. Those of the Umbalor (Dreams Fate) are the watchers, the protectors of Fate's design. Always looking for those who would seek to interfere, though never interfering themselves, without good cause. They are teller of Dreams, and can decipher symbols and significance within them, or assure that it was nothing at all. They are often considered a prideful people, and those who are thin of skin are usually turned away. For to record Fate, to watch its path as it begins to cut away through time, to stand by and watch as what many would feel is an innocent fall, rather than step in and act to save, or to save, when perhaps death would have inevitably been the outcome and such death was desired by many, takes a special sort of person. One who can separate themselves from emotion to do, only, what must be done.
Ranks:
For someone within Umbalor to rise in ranks, they must complete their studies, to include the study of the realm around them, though the latter is a course that never ends. It is in what they learn, how they handle the many different situations they bear witness to, that determines the path that Fate has in store for them.
The Manu Fata (The Hand of Fate) - One of the few who have a direct link
to the goddess in one form or another. Their rule is law among the
Umbalor, for it is the belief that the Manu Fata's will is the will
of Fate herself. Though this is a position that many do not covet,
as most know Fate to be a fickle thing, and more often than not,
unkind.
The Oculos Fati (The Eyes of Fate) - The keeper of the knowledge of the
Umbalor. Most often silent, always watching, listening, recording
memory or scribbling within a tome. The one who will see the Dark
Times as if a writing on the wall, and share their knowledge with
those who have earned the right to learn it from them. For not all
are capable of knowing what Fate has in store, what is to come, or
what may be. The Oculos Fati, is said to have the ear of Dreams, who
is able to send word or warning of intent via the minds slumbering
state.
The Vocem Fati (The Voice of Fate) - While the hand the eyes most often work
in silence and behind the scenes, keeping what will or warning is to
be kept, their watchful eye always on the realm and looking for any
form of interference be it good or bad, it is the Vocem Fati that
spreads the warnings. The negotiator, the diplomat, the ambassador of
the Umbalor. They may at times be greeted with hostility, at other times
with reverence, yet never shall their temper be seen. For after all, it
is all Fates will, is it not?
Dream walker - Able to walk through dreams, though not in a literal sense.
After completion of studies and their observation of the realm and
their interaction is reviewed, a Loyalist may choose to become a
Dream Walker, a Reflectionist, or an Observer. Should one choose the
path of a Dream Walker, they will learn how to use runes and objects
provided by the Goddess to help with the interpretation of dreams.
Through a ritual they will be able to aid in the projection of an
individuals dreams in a sense, into a large crystal in the Dream
Chamber, where they can observe and study it, in its truest sense.
Reflectionist - The seekers of knowledge whose goal is to gain as much as
they are able. What truth or gossip can be found is learned and
brought to the Oculos Fati. Seekers of relics no matter how small
or insignificant it may be, for even the tiniest of things have
purpose in the lines of Fate. Anything learned, gained, or received
is brought to the Umbalor's Reflectionist's for study and given to
the Manu Fata.
Observer - The observers are the ones that stand on the sidelines of
battles and wars. Who hide in the shadows while watching as a
crime occurs. Right or wrong, good or bad, they see no difference
between them all, for each can tip in the ways of interference.
What they bear witness to is never spoken of, only scribed within
a tome in secret code and symbols that are only known to the
Manu Fata and themselves.
Loyalist - Once a Disciple of the Umbalor has completed their tasks and
their studies, they will be reviewed by the three points of Fate
and may be risen to the ranks of Loyalist. As a Loyalist they may
begin their studies according to their desired field, however once
studies begin, they can not be changed so are asked to choose
wisely. They may be given tasks that are dangerous in nature to
complete. As well as given a test that they must pass. One that may
be their last before able to move up into the ranks above.
Disciple - Once a Neophyte is deemed worthy, they will be raised to the
ranks of Disciple where they will be taught the theology of the
realm and the Gods, the history and the warning signs of the
Dark Times. Small tasks will be given for them to accomplish while
seeing to their studies.
Neophyte - An initiate into the Order of the Umbalor. The Neophyte will
be given small tasks and watched to deem if they are devoted and
worthy to begin study with the Umbalor.
Military:
Nocturnal Knights - The elite fighting force, the protectors of Fate and
her followers.
Sleep Walkers - The Holy Warriors of Fate, comprising of Clerics, Druids,
and Rangers.
Weavers - The Spell Casters and workers of Rune magics and the arcane,
comprised of Mages, Elementalists, and Necromancers.
Vashir - The dark servants of Fate, consisting mostly of Spell filchers,
Thieves and Assassins.
