General Description and Biology

Demons are a highly varied race, often likened to canines in terms of the
sheer variety within their species. They can range from short, squat forms
to towering, humanoid figures depending on their power level. Weaker demons
typically have more animalistic or monstrous features, like snake-like
scales, froglike skin, or insectoid limbs. More powerful demons often have
more human-like features, while weaker demons may resemble creatures such as
snakes, frogs, or insects. Stronger demons more humanoid in appearance,
often have minor traits like horns or clawed fingers as subtle reminders of
their fiendish origins. Demons usually have great strength and resilience,
though the degree varies by type and age. They have two hearts and can live
with only one functioning, giving rise to rumors of their immortality. Eyes
may glow with unnatural colors (red, yellow, green) or appear animalistic
and often lack a sclera.

Basic Personality

Though often assumed to be evil, demons have a spectrum of alignments and
personalities. They can be loyal, cunning, or even kind-hearted, though most
are naturally drawn to secrecy and can be prone to mischief or power-seeking
behavior. Demons are often mistrusted, which has led many to develop a
guarded or defensive nature, giving false names and hiding true motives to
avoid exposure.

Origin and Lore

Demons are believed to be created as the dark counterparts to angels.
Originally intended to be servants, many deviated from this purpose trying
to grab power from the Gods on their own. For this, they were punished,
struck down and twisted for their desires. They were cursed by the Gods for
their insolence and desire to break away and that curse is said to carry to
this day- if any knows their true name, they must obey their command. Their
home is the moon Nephilim, but demons can be found nearly anywhere. Though
some have attempted to integrate into various societies, their dark history
and formidable abilities make others wary.

Naming Conventions

Due to their curse (or maybe the assumption of the curse) Demons are
secretive about their real names, often using short, descriptive pseudonyms
instead. These "given" names often relate to their personality, likes, or
talents and can sometimes be anagrammatic or cryptic. Examples: Thorn,
Gloom, Wrath, Ember, Rune, Hex, Sable, Mist

Preferred Habitat

Demons adapt well to any environment but favor places with in isolation.
While they are most commonly found on Nephilim and XXyxz, they may also
dwell in mountainous regions, deserts, and subterranean lairs on Tirradyn.

Society Structure

Demon society is loosely organized, with strength and power typically
determining hierarchy. Greater demons often command lesser demons, though
individual power is respected, and many live solitary lives. Demons have
complex systems of alliances and feuds, with each clan or group operating
under its own traditions and codes.
