History Balmorral began with the building of it by, Aldan Balmorral I at the urging of a young man called Josiah Brohan, who had heard tales of wonder, of the powers of the divine. Yet he had never experienced the divine himself. He gathered together the stories that he heard, to form a way to worship this divine thing. In exchange for his coin, he would request a temple, a way to worship and honor this creature that he knew of only from song. He would aid it's battle against evil, and would lend his coin to the cause for what he had chosen to call the 'One God'. Thus was the beginning of Balmorral. the current ruler his co-founders descendant, King Aldan Balmorral XVII, which would give one an estimation that this kingdom has existed for some time. Warring with others on Agragon to seize control, they expanded their reach and their law, until nearly all of Agragon was theirs. There are many tales and legends that can be heard in taverns and sung by bards. Tales of woe and heartache, of midwives slain for their use of herbs, and accused of witchery. Of men who's heads were removed for all to see by the guillotine that always remains in the square. How it is used as an example, a showing, of what is in store for the unholy, the unnatural, or those without souls. Many tribes and villages failed to defeat them when they came like a bright beam in the night. Their gold armor shining in the light of the moon, it was a sight that many learned to fear. Those who had managed to gain warning by word or by scout, were driven into unstable parts of the land that even Balmorral did not want. The armonin people of Dur'Amon, taking refuge in the ice and the mud. Using the northern chill as their wall. The akahramans of Akahram, forced to the opposite, fleeing to the lands of sand and heat, before finding themselves blessed with an oasis. Those of the Brumalwulf forced onto lands that could not sustain, and divided in their decision, split into seven, to make a home in different parts of of the realm. Balmorrian's have a bloody history, a history of judgment, of redemption, of cleansing and purifying all things evil and without mercy. All in the name of what they call, the 'One God'. Government The Parliament - a group, that is much like a council, that brings the day to day affairs to the attention of the rule, and help decide laws duties, and taxes. The King - While the King takes the Parliament's advice, and listens to the voice of the people through them, he has the final say in what will or will not be done, or allowed. The Church - The real rule of Balmorral, sits within the church. For the church holds all the secrets through confession, all the will and love and trust of the people. They are the military force of the kingdom. All fear their judgment and persecution, including the King. Politics To think of them as diplomate's, would be place your hand into the jaws of a wild beast, and hope that it does not shut around you. Their politics lies strictly within their religious beliefs, and any who do not agree, are evil and should be destroyed. Legal System Those who are accused are heard by the church, though the King does sit in. The accused is allowed a council, but their questioning tactics, can be seen as highly unorthodox. Being drawn and quartered, one of their methods to getting to the truth, and allowing the evil to be redeemed. All evil who do not ask for redemption, gain an automatic death sentence that is carried out by the guillotine. Noble Families (Work in Progress) Gods worshiped The One God - Their belief system began with bed time stories and the songs of bards. Gathered and written into the tome that has become the the law of the land. Believing in, Justice, Protection, Light, Purification and Truth with an unbending view. Seeing a belief in any other than 'The One' as a sign of evil and hostility. Believing that any that are different from themselves, as evil, or unnatural, and seek to cleanse them from the realm. All others, they seek to redeem. Culture/Customs (Work in Progress) Education The church is their school. Those who do not need to keep their children to gain their aid in fields or shops, or livery's, are able to have their children schooled by the church from toddler age, until they reach adulthood. Only a very few, are permitted to receive outside education.
