About the Holiday
The Day of Love is a day of rest for the goddess. To ensure love goes on while she rests Kedanna created the Love Cats, tiny catlike spirits no larger than a handspan, soft-furred and wide-eyed, with delicate angelic wings and a single sacred purpose: to nudge unwilling or oblivious hearts toward affection. These love cats are normally under her control spreading love from a predefined yet ever changing list by the use of magical blowgun, but on the Day of Love the lists vanish and they are freed and left to their own devices. While Kedanna spends the day visiting mortals, her Love Cats are unleashed to spark random love through the realm.
Traditions
- The Coin of Chance: Single people looking for love begin the day by flipping a silver coin. If it lands heads they must perform an act of affection before sundown. If it lands Tails, they must commit an act of mischief before sundown. Its believed doing this draws the attention of the Love Cats and greatly increases their chance to find love.
- The Kiss of Consequence: Just before sundown, couples or hopeful couples gather at shrines of Kedanna. Under a wreath of braided Pink Primroses or Pink Wisteria the couples share a meaningful touch as they speak promises to each other sealed finally with a kiss. Tradition holds that this will blessed their bonds.
- Chaotic Courting (Tu-Lips): Those of Tu-Lips send anonymous, flirty pranks to friends and enemies, examples such as: flowers that sing, chocolates that temporarily dye whomever eats it hair (or fur) pink, and love letters to their enemies from their other enemies. No one is truly sure why, but its believed to be an attempt to bribe the goddess to favor them in lover when her day of rest is over.
- The Ribbons of Love (KriXina): Citizens tie bright ribbons to balcony rails and city spires. If a breeze knots two ribbons together, it is believed that the people associated with them will meet within the year. If a love cat lands on a ribbon, the two are "destined to fall in love", and not even the fates can stop it.
