Faq13 - How do I build my own house?

Keywords: FAQ13
Category: creation
If you'd rather have a home that is more customized to suit your character in a location just about anywhere in the realm, then that can be done with a house deed that is bought at the quest mistress/master. The help housing file explains things in greater detail, but, it's really that simple. Building the house itself however, can be a task that is challenging for someone who has never built anything here before. We have written and included tons and tons of help files to help new folks to building, there is also a builder channel where you can ask questions and people are usually more than willing to answer. Once you have been set up as a builder for your home, you can access the builder channel by typing bt <text>. In order to build your home, you must go into build mode, to do this, type mode build, to get out of build mode, type mode play. You'll need to be out of any editors however, or your character will sometimes freeze. If you forget to type done, before typing mode play, simply log out and back in, and you'll be unfrozen again. To access the OLC help files, you'll need to be in build mode. The best place to start, if you're new, is the help olc_new_builder file, the olc_balance file, and the olc_commands file. You can also get lucky enough, to have someone help you build it with you, if that happens, ask the head builder to add them as a builder in your house. Houses that are not linked into the realm, or have not been finished and inspected can not be rped in, and -all- homes have to fit within the theme of the mud. No space ships or sky scrapers please. :)
