Spirituality is a strong component of the average Orcish lifestyle, making many appearances in every day tasks ranging from traditions of their household to heirloom weapons passed down from great heroes of their bloodlines. They would propogate the belief that such things hold power and they would not necessarily be wrong - legends stoke the passion of Orcs and through this passion do they accomplish great feats worthy of recognition even beyond their tribe.
Spiritual leaders, or Shaman, often chronicle these legends by word of mouth. They pass these stories on to their children, aspiring Shaman, and other members of the tribe as often as they can. They hold rites to speak with their ancestors as they call upon their spirits for advice and wisdom. They even hold great events among their kind marking the seasons. When a chieftain is having great difficulty with a problem, the Shaman is the first they turn to and nobody would think less of them for it.
The rite of passage is one such important event held among young Orcs as they come of age. Their tribal Shaman will mark this day with an event involving intricate facial pant and tattoo-work. The tattoo signifies the beginning of a trial they must complete and the completion of it marks their passage to adulthood and recognition as a fully-fledged member of their people. An unfinished ritual tattoo in this method often signifies failure of this trial or inability to complete it which can bring great shame upon their family.
