The cold, dark oceans beneath the Sea of Ice off the coast of Elzeothis are known to the Merfolk peoples as simply the Depths. The surface is covered in glaciers of ice that are close to the steep cliffs. Despite the cold, penguins can commonly be found as well as seals and various whales who seem comfortable with the temperatures. Beneath the water are layers of basalt which lead to the home of Merfolk from that part of the ocean. The City of Ghilldovia and the Temple of Nereus and all that surround it are often referred to by the common name.
