Children of the night, the Vampires aren't a true race in and of themselves, but rather a group of people who have become afflicted with a magical curse known as Vampirism. These undead being look much as they did in life, though their skin tends to be more pale than normal, and their eyes possess a certain indescribable hollowness. Only those specifically looking for such signs would notice a Vampire from a normal person, at least until the pair of fangs located on the upper jaw are seen. A Vampire's skin tends to be cool to the touch, as no life or warmth is created in their bodies anymore. The steps of one of these beings, however, tend to be graceful, for Vampirism bestows an unnatural speed and grace upon the afflicted.
How Vampirism first came about is unknown. Some speculate that it is a curse of the gods, given to those who reject the preachings of the divine and seek a life of evil and deceit. The truth is known only to the gods themselves, and they don't seem to be willing to part with this particular bit of information. Regardless, Vampires don't seem to be concentrated in any one area, as this curse spreads quickly among the mortal races of Tirradyn.
Vampires tend to be quite arrogant, believing themselves immortal and far superior to the "lesser beings" of their race. The curse of Vampirism almost always changes the heart of the bearer, turning that person selfish and evil, though there are a few who can resist this affect of the curse. Vampires are of fair intelligence, though they can learn quite a bit in their long lives.
When vampires die and/or are killed they will slip into a torpor. It can be possible to awaken from this torpor, but the vampire in question would need to seek the Vampire Council to proceed.
