The 'ostatus' Command

Your ostatus appears directly under your long description when people look at you directly. It is indistinguishable from your long description in those cases, but there are major differences between them. Ostatuses are specifically for those things that change constantly about your character. Wounds, hair styles, details about your clothing...things that change over time that you don't want to have to rewrite your long description to include, or that aren't allowed in long descriptions. They should be things that people would notice in looking at you. For instance, are you wearing your shirt half-unbuttoned today? Is your hair particularly messy, or well done? Are your boots covered in mud? People would notice these things about you, but they aren't permanent.
