Short Descriptions
Keywords:
SHORT
Category:
command
Syntax: short <string>
Short sets the text that is displayed to others when they look at a room or see you perform an action. When you first create your character, you are assigned a basic Short based on your race and gender. For example, a brand new human male would come up as:
a male human
This will come up when your character does practically anything. If you kept the default Short and did a nod emote, everyone in the room would see the following:
A male human nods.
Shorts have to follow certain guidelines. Due to the frequency that they appear, they should be kept relatively short. Imagine them as a description of what your character looks like at a glance, using less than ten words. "A willowy male human with gold hair" or "a muscular lizardman with green eyes" are examples.
In addition, it's customary to include color in your short description, so be sure to check out 'help color' on how to make your short better-looking. Also, make sure that an article (a, an, the) is the first word in your short, otherwise a lot of actions stop making sense.
Otherwise Shorts follow many of the rules that apply to Long descriptions. Try to avoid references to clothing as this should be displayed with equipment, and thoughts, attitudes, and actions should be kept out of them as well.
