Troll Classes
Crush. Maim. Split. Kill. Chew. Rip and Tear. A Troll first and foremost is always a Troll, always a menace, always a terror in the dark - a monster. Classes that excel at this? A Troll will excel at. But remember...each Troll, is a new face, a different face, a different monster in the dark.
First and foremost: Trolls are physical monsters. They're very real. They're very present in the Now. Where a Banshee may curse, or a Pixie may hex someone -- a Troll will impulsively aim to tear one limb from limb, to gouge out eyes, tug out teeth or just kill. It is instinctive for a troll to become a Warrior, to specialize in that physical brutality.
But they can be hunters, too. They can speak to beasts, and bogs. They can be truly terrible masters of the hidden places -- fear the Troll Ranger just as much as the Troll Berserker; for combined with their physical feats they are terrifying conduits of mayhem, and destruction.
It was once thought that a Troll, or anything with trollblood would be ejected, rejected by Nature. That there was no feasible way for them to connect to Nature and so - atleast the idea of facing a Troll Druid was out of the question...except that has proven false. Bog Witches. Cave Warlocks. Monsters that howl into the wind and bottle lightning! They eat the bones of children, with houses that move on the legs of many-rooster! This, is the Troll Druid, and people are right to be wary.
Not all Troll are massive, slobbering, barely-thinking engines of endless-war. Some are much more fragile. Some are much more frightening. Some, can look as small as children, and move with terrible grace. Some are wisp-thin, with foot-long many-fingers, more like vines and roots than digits -- and these are the troll who are called 'Snatcher', 'Taker' or 'Thief'. What larger Troll get out of tearing enemies apart and devouring the parts - these little fiends often delight more in satisfying some temporary, unearthly greed. Or to steal hair off a beautiful woman in the night, simply to hear her scream. Or...and more often than not...to steal a child from a crib for...well. It's better not to think about it.
When a Troll can be found who prays to one of The Divines, it is often one of the Half-Bloods. Or 'Trollkin'. They're hideous to behold, bent and broken, misshapen as their parent. With the musculature to crush bones in a grasp - do not look for the Troll Cleric in the temple tending wounded, but beware their hideous screams on the battlefield or whipping their kin into a frenzy, speaking the Utterances of Drugaal. While there is no rule against Trolls praying to other Divines, one would not shame the Divine who turned down a Troll Cleric...after all, what if it's true? What if...all Troll are Drugaal?
The Monks of the Eighteen-Shrines have long held themselves against the 'Many-Foe'. Rather than giving a specific name to a specific Troll, the monks grew wiser than many others, and discovered that all Troll are inherently merciless, they are inherently cruel - and utterly chaotic. Limitless in their evil intent. However, in the Eighteen-Shrines' current wisdom, they had made a past mistake: The Many-Foe grew close to them. The Many-Foe watched from the dark places, with terribly greedy, hungry eyes. What the monks of Then did to curse the monks of Now was simple and...fatal: They mistook the patience of a Troll for hesitation. For a desire to learn, to grow...and they paid for it. The Troll who show signs of monkish training in Open Palm or Closed Palm techniques are flurries of energy designed for one purpose: To destroy the balance The Monks hold so dear.
Which brings us to some of the rarest, cruelest, vilest, and most frightening sights of the Ttroll classes: The Mage. For a troll to not only bypass its own instincts long enough to learn a single cantrip, but possess the otherworldly cunning and wisdom needed to summon Deviants forth at their command - to warp space and time! It is no surprise then, that it was one of The Drow who discovered The Witch-Tooth. The Mana-Eater. The Marrow-Binder. Trolls of this cunning are often alone, and with good reason: Their cruelty has no limit, no reasoning. They are just as likely to harm their kin, as they are to sing a song and call all the nearby village's women into a bog and eat them.
