BACKSTAB

Keywords: BACKSTAB
Syntax: backstab

Backstab is the favoured attack of thieves, murderers, and other rogues. It can only be used while wielding a dagger or similar weapon. The damage inflicted by a backstab is determined by the attacker's level, weapon skill, backstab skill, and the power of the opponent. Only thieves and spellfilchers may learn the backstab skill.

RPStat Information:

Weapon Type: Dagger (or similar weapon)
Damage Type: Pierce
Damage: 6d6 + <Physical Damroll>
Remarks: In order for this attack to be successful, the attacker must be both unseen, as well as behind the target. This would include being on the back of larger creatures (ie. Dragons).

Mechanically, this is a very complex attack.. Typically, someone utilizing this skilled attack would follow this scenario:

1) Attacker makes a <
Dexterity> (Hide/Sneak) check.

2) The result of that roll is compared to the
passive perception (<Wisdom>) of the Victim [ RP-Mechanics ].

3) Should the
hide result be higher, then the attacker is able to roll their attack with advantage due to them being undetected by their victim (as described in Hide ).
3a) Should the
passive result be higher, then the attacker is unable to successfully sneak up on their opponent. They may still make normal attacks against their victim; however, should use only regular weapon damage; they are not permitted to try to use another skill (ie. Lunge) simply because they failed.

4) Striking with
backstab results in the damage dice above being rolled. Whether you cinematically post plunging one or both daggers into their back, the damage dice are the same.
